Siemens sets up TAC centre in Bangalore

The centre aims at skilling those working with and on machine tools, and helping enhancing productivity in the sector.

July 15, 2014 10:18 pm | Updated 10:18 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Technology major Siemens has launched its first Technology and Application Centre (TAC) in India. Located in Peenya, Bangalore’s industrial cluster, the centre aims at skilling those working with and on machine tools, and helping enhancing productivity in the sector.

Joachim Zoll, global head of Machine Tools at Siemens, said this was the seventh TAC Siemens was operating around the world.

“While on the one hand, we will have classes for those with limited knowledge about Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems and machine tools, on the other, we will have classes for experts who perhaps do not know about latest functionalities that the new controls offer them,” he said.

Mr. Zoll hoped that the initiative would be able to make an impact on the education sector with ‘train the trainer’ programmes that could act as a multiplier into the industry. He described the TAC as a training and communications centre.

The domestic machine tools industry suffered from a productivity lag, said Satish Godbole, Vice-President, Motion Control Systems, Siemens. “What we are bringing to the table is a technological solution to improve the productivity of the industry,’’ he explained.

Hands-on experience

The TAC is spread across 6,500 sq. ft. It will allow Indian machine tool manufacturers and users to get a hands-on experience of the latest CNC technologies and solutions from Siemens and its partners.

Siemens already has at least around four major partners listed for this TAC, including Laksmi Machine Works, Coimbatore; Ace Micromatic, Bangalore; Jyoti Automation, Rajkot; and Lokesh Machines, Hyderabad. .

The centre also houses Siemens Financial Services, an international provider of business-to-business financial solutions, the company said.
