Shalimar Paints Ltd., whose factory at Howrah, near here, was damaged in a fire in March this year, has suspended work at the unit. The unit has a heritage tag being among South East Asia's first large scale paints manufacturing unit

The decision was taken due to inordinate delay in reopening the unit, the company said. It has offered to redeploy its employees at this unit at its locations elsewhere in the country.

Shalimar Paints started its journey in 1902 and claims to be among the forerunner paint manufacturers in South East Asia.

It has two other units - at Nashik and Skandrabad near Delhi. It is engaged in making decorative and industrial paints.
