China-based Sany Group, a global major in the construction machinery industry, on Monday inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India at Chakan near here. The plant was inaugurated by Maharashtra Minister-of-State for Industries Sachin Ahir in the presence of Chinese Governor Zhang Chunxian and Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan. This is the group's first manufacturing facility outside China for the Asia-Pacific region.
The group first entered India in 2003 and has since been involved in the supply of construction machinery to infrastructure projects including the Adani power plant, Mumbai International Airport expansion, the Delhi Metro project and the Indira Gandhi International Airport Project.
The plant, set up on 3.30 lakh sq. metres, includes a manufacturing set-up, product design and customisation centre, sales, renting, service, storage, logistics and a research and development (R&D) centre. It would manufacture trailer-mounted concrete pumps, truck-mounted concrete pumps, concrete mixer trucks, concrete batching plant and motor grader and cranes. It is designed to supply equipments, components, design and R&D to the Indian marketplace and additional Asian, African and the Middle-Eastern markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Xiang Wenbo, founder and President of the Sany Group, said, “Availability of a skilled workforce, presence of good logistics and support from the Maharashtra government were reasons for the choice of Pune as our first offshore destination in India. This country has also provided us with educated, motivated and talented people.”
This plant, with an investment of $ 70 million, is the group's second manufacturing facility in Asia after China. Interacting with journalists, Sany India Managing Director Liang Dong said the company aimed to notch up a turnover worth $1.5 billion from its India business by 2015.
