Rhenus Logistics to double capacity

Second multi-user facility at Tiruvallur, near Chennai, will be inaugurated on Friday.

Rhenus Logistics India Private Ltd. has drawn up plans to more than double its warehousing capacity to 2.5 million sq.ft by 2016-17.

Currently, the integrated logistics player has 1.1 million sq.ft of warehousing space of both multi-user facilities and customer-specific dedicated facilities in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Besides, expansion programme was on at Bengaluru, Mumbai and Mohali.

Talking to The Hindu , a company official said Rhenus was planning to add 4-5 lakh sq.ft of warehousing space in 2015-16 and nearly a million sq.ft. the following year in different parts of the country including Chennai.

Second unit Since the practice of the company is to lease the space and invest in mechanization, the officials were not willing to quantify the investment as it depended on the customer needs and specifications, he said.

P.S. Saini, Rhenus Contract Logistics India Ltd., Director, announced the commencement of second multi-user facility at Tiruvallur near Chennai on Friday.

The warehouse, spread over 55,000 sq.ft., would address the needs of chemical industry located in and around Sriperumbudur and Oragadam. With the opening of new facility, Rhenus warehousing space near Chennai would touch 1 lakh sq.ft.

e-commerce Rhenus Logistics was exploring the possibility of entering the e-commerce venture and was in talks with e-tailers, an official said.
