Tata Group veteran S. Ramadorai, 71, has resigned from the posts of Chairman of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) adding to speculation that he may be in the reckoning for the chairmanship of Tata Sons.

The NSDA, in a notice put up on its website, has announced Mr. Ramadorai’s resignation. It has not cited any reason.

Sources close to Mr. Ramadorai suggest that with the initiative of skills development in the country in the “safe hands of the Ministry of Skill Development, he possibly felt that he could move on.”

The statement added, “Rohit Nandan, Vice Chairman of the governing body of the NSDA and Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship will discharge the function of Chairman, NSDA till a new Chairman is appointed.”

There has been no announcement from the NSDC. Mr. Ramdorai had the rank of Union Cabinet Minister at NSDC and NSDA, institutions considered crucial for the Skill India programme.
