Minister for Textiles Vartur Prakash on Monday said the Government will provide substantial subsidy on power consumed by spinning mills.
Mr. Prakash told presspersons that the support extended to the spinning mills in the State was insignificant in comparison to that extended by the neighbouring States. “While the neighbouring States have been providing power subsidy to the spinning mills, till date there has been no such practice in Karnataka”, he said. In the State, the number of spinning mills had come down from 12 to 6 and to stop spinning mills from closing down, the State Government has decided to provide power subsidy and other help to the existing spinning mills. The proposal of the Textile Ministry to provide subsidy of Rs. 2 per unit of power consumed by the spinning mills has been accepted by Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda. The proposal has now been sent to the Finance Department for approval.
Textile parks
Referring to the pending proposal for establishing textile parks in Gulbarga and Bellary, Mr. Prakash said that during his recent visit to New Delhi, he had called on Union Minister Anand Sharma and pleaded for the early clearance for central assistance promised to Bellary and Gulbarga textile parks. Mr. Anand Sharma had responded positively and had promised to clear the proposal at the earliest.
Mr. Prakash said the State proposes to establish another textile park in Kolar on 250 acres of land and he had already held discussions with the potential investors.
