After a delegation, led by Joint Secretary Petroleum Ministry (International Division) P.K. Singh, went to Pakistan last month to seek engagement in petrochemicals , another delegation led by Joint Secretary (Power) Rita Acharya is currently in Pakistan to discuss the possibility of supply of electricity to the neighbouring country. India had offered to supply 500 MW of electricity to Pakistan from its grid in Punjab. The deal was put on hold as Pakistan went through an election season. The Power Ministry delegation will now meet Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif, and hold discussions for a possible exchange of electricity. The discussions would focus on the nearest point for transmission of power and putting in place the required infrastructure. India is inclined to supply 500 MW of power to the Punjab region in the bordering areas but this supply could be enhanced depending upon the capacity of the Pakistan grid.
