Bengaluru-based Portea Medical Pvt. Ltd. is working closely with Qualcomm Ventures to bring point-of-care and wearable devices for its home-based healthcare services in India.
The firm had raised an undisclosed sum from Qualcomm Ventures last year. “One of the reasons why Qualcomm ventures has invested in our firm is that they are strong in medical technology, wearables, and point-of-care devices,” Meena Ganesh Co-Founder and CEO of Portea Medical, said.
Looking for synergies“There are interesting wearable devices for healthcare globally, and we are closely evaluating the opportunity with investee companies of Qualcomm Ventures.”
Mrs. Ganesh said the firm was also looking at point-of-care devices, which could do electro-cardiography (ECG), check blood pressure or pulse oximetry. “That data via bluetooth put in the cloud and come to us and which our people can monitor continuously. The advantages of these devices are that they are Bluetooth-enabled, mobile, easy-to-use and do not need experts.”
Portea Medical provides geriatric, chronic, post-operative and primary care to patients on a transaction or subscription basis. It handles 35,000 visits a month, and has 1,200 employees. The firm is present in 20 locations, and looking to expand to 50 in the next two years.
