Oracle buys Bitzer Mobile

The company will become a core component of Oracle’s mobile security strategy

November 18, 2013 11:01 pm | Updated 11:01 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Bitzer Mobile, a mobile solutions firm co-founded by Ali Ahmed, Naeem Zafar and Indus Khaitan, has been acquired by U.S technology major Oracle in a transaction that marks a string of recent exits in India’s software industry.

According to people with direct knowledge of the matter, the transaction closed last week.

The financial details of the deal were not immediately known. Bitzer Mobile was started in 2011, and has picked up close to $7 million in funding from Acero Capital and Chevron Technology Ventures Investments along with some debt funding.

Bitzer Mobile is primarily a provider of mobile management solutions that lets companies allow their employees to access corporate data and application from mobile devices. It has offices in both Bangalore and in the U.S.

The move by Oracle is a definitive signal that the company is figuring out a mobile strategy, according to industry insiders.

When contacted, the company confirmed the development. “The transaction has closed. Bitzer Mobile will augment Oracle’s portfolio, and is expected to be a core component to its mobile security strategy,” the company said in a statement.

“Together, Oracle and Bitzer Mobile are expected to provide organisations with a comprehensive solution to further manage security of enterprise information held on personal and company-owned mobile devices,” it added.
