July 22, 2015 10:29 pm | Updated July 24, 2015 03:14 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Sensing a huge explosion in retail payment system, Opus Consulting Solutions is converting its Chennai data centre as an 'Analytics Centre of Innovation’ for building skills in analytics and mobile service offerings.

The new centre in Chennai that can accommodate 280 professionals will be inaugurated on Friday.

Talking to The Hindu , Opus Chief Executive Officer, Anand Ramakrishnan said: “The talent pool in Chennai is specialised in statistical, analytics, big data tools and technologies. In the last eight months, the analytics business has grown two folds, and, hence, Opus is further expanding its operations in Chennai by moving into a new office. We wish to establish Chennai as the Analytics Centre of Innovation.”

Top officials at Opus see a good scope for analytical skills and mobile service offerings as India has more advanced payment system than the West in terms of acceptance - be it for debit card or credit card or online payment.

“In the next five years, there will not be any plastic card left, and mobile phones will become payment vehicles for everyone. The future will be a card-less payment mechanism, and given that Opus is at the front-end of it, we can be a big player in this transformation journey,” he said. “We are focused on making transactions more secure, cashless and easier for customers around the globe. We will be at the forefront of converting physical or plastic cards into digital format. However, it might take some more time for India to adopt it. Right now, we are doing a lot of work in the high-value domain space for payment providers,” he said.

Opus has 800-plus professionals providing solutions in the service lines of platform transformation, analytics, digital, compliance and testing from its centres in the U.S., Pune and Chennai.
