Oplus India, a subsidiary of Oplus Taiwan, today announced the launch of its first smartphone in the country — the XonPhone5, priced at Rs. 7,999.

The company has launched the handset through an exclusive partnership with the homegrown online marketplace Snapdeal. Earlier, the two companies had come together to launch Oplus' 7 inch tablet, the XonPad7.

While the Oplus did not disclose the sales figure for the tablet, its CEO Soumitra Gupta said the response "was overwhelming, and this is what gives us the encouragement to launch our second product in the market".

The dual SIM XonPhone5, runs on runs Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and is powered by Quad core processor and 2,000 mAh battery. It sports a 5-inch capacitive multi-touch screen, 1 GB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 2 MP Front Camera. Other features include 16GB internal storage expandable via microSD card.

Snapdeal Senior VP (Electronics) Tony Navin said, "Of about 600 tablet brands on Snapdeal, XonPad 7 is among the top selling tablet brands, which itself speaks about the product and the company. Our second association takes this relationship to the next level."

Talking about the benefits to consumer when phones are sold through the online route, Gupta said this helps eliminate the need of various distributors, which puts lesser pressure on margins. This cost benefit is forwarded to consumers in pricing of the phone.
