Japanese auto major Nissan on Friday launched its second model from the Datsun portfolio, a Multi-Purpose Vehicle GO+, in the Indian market. The vehicle that has been priced at Rs 3.79 lakh, will compete with the likes of Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio.

GO+ comes with 1.2 petrol engine, a fuel economy of 20.6 km/litre and a luggage space of 347 litres, Nissan Motor India Managing Director Arun Malhotra said.

The Datsun Go+ range starts at Rs 3.79 lakh with the top end model priced at Rs 4.61 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Earlier this month, it had announced the start of pre-bookings for Datsun GO+ .

On question over Datsun’s vehicles safety, he said, “Safety is extremely important for the brand and the vehicle meets all Indian safety standards.”

Late last year, Global NCAP had raised questions over the vehicle safety and sturdiness of the Go compact. In a letter to Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn, the consumer car safety testing body had even suggested withdrawal for the vehicle from the market.

Drops plan on separate Datsun network G. Balachandar from Chennai adds:

Nissan, on Friday, indicated that it was dropping the plan of establishing a separate dealer network for Datsun brand. The Japanese car maker’s existing dealer network would sell Datsun brand of cars in the country.

The company seeks to take a call on separating the network for Datsun after establishing the revived iconic Brand, meant for the entry level customers in India, and growing its volumes over the next few years. “Given the lower awareness level for Datsun brand, we feel it is a good solution now to sell Datsun cars through the existing Nissan network,” said Gulliaume Sicard, President-Nissan India operations.
