Nissan sees rise in customer footfalls

June 07, 2014 12:01 am | Updated 12:01 am IST - CHENNAI:

Japanese car maker Nissan has said that customer footfalls at its dealerships have increased on the back of emerging positive sentiments among car buyers.

“Our dealerships are reporting 15-20 per cent increase in customer footfalls in the past 10-15 days as the customer sentiments are improving.

“We have been clocking an average monthly volume of 2,000 plus for Datsun Go since the launch three months ago. We hope this number will go up in the next few months,” Ajay Raghuvanshi, Vice-President – Marketing, Sales and Dealer Development, Nissan India, told this correspondent.

Auto makers are of the view that the strong verdict in the Parliamentary election has raised hopes and expectations that the new government would chart a cohesive development agenda leading to positive consumer sentiments and thereby driving consumption.

Nissan sees bright prospects to boost the monthly sales of its low-budget volume model Datsun Go with car buyers started flocking the showrooms and rising enquiry levels.

It hopes to increase sales of Datsun Go, launched in March this year, to about 3,000 units a month in the next few months from 2,000 units presently.

Nissan is strongly focused on establishing the brand Datsun, on which it is betting big to transform into a volume player in the Indian market. Nissan’s India volumes are primarily driven by Datsun Go presently.

Meanwhile, it is also expected to strengthen its SUV offering with the proposed launch of Datsun Go+. It is also planning to come out with a new variant of its mid-size sedan Sunny.
