MRPL’s coker unit on stream

The secondary processing facility is part of the Phase III project to upgrade and expand the refinery.

The Coker Heavy Gas Oil Hydro Treating (CHT) unit of the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. (MRPL) has become operational. Its capacity is 6.50 lakh tonnes per year. The Rs.443-crore unit removes contaminants such as organic sulphur, nitrogen, and metal compounds from the vacuum gas oil (VGO) or coker heavy gas oil — the products of crude oil subjected to primary processing.

The secondary processing facility is part of the Phase III project to upgrade and expand the refinery.

According to a release, the VGO was fed to the unit on May 10 and the treated product was routed out on May 11to petroleum fluidized catalytic convertor unit feed tank.
