Maruti Suzuki, on Friday, said it would recall over one lakh units of its popular models — Ertiga, Swift and DZire — to replace faulty fuel filler neck. The recall, one of the biggest by the company, will impact 42,481 units of DZire, 47,237 units of Swift and 13,593 units of Ertiga manufactured between November 12, 2013, and February 4, 2014.
Stock reacts Reacting to the news, the company scrip closed at Rs.1,930.50, down by 1.46 per cent on the BSE.
Explaining the reasons for recall, Maruti said that the affected vehicles could have complaints of fuel smell and in extreme conditions may also be prone to some leakage, especially if the tank is filled up to the Fuel Cap, beyond ‘Auto cut off level’.
It clarified that this “exercise is limited to vehicles within the above specified range and does not pertain to any other vehicle of the company.” “Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact owners of all vehicles in the above mentioned range.
The company will replace the ‘fuel filler neck’ free of cost,” it said. The carmaker is dispatching new fuel filler necks to dealer workshops so that they can carry out the replacements.
“Considering the number of vehicles impacted, the company is building up stock of the required component at its dealer workshops, before inviting customers,” Maruti said.
Further, the company said users who have bought their cars post-November 12, 2013, can check the company’s website to ascertain if their car is among the above mentioned vehicles.
Customers may also contact the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to ascertain if their vehicle is among the above vehicles.
The recall is the company’s largest after its recall of about one lakh units of ‘A-Star’ in February 2010 to replace a faulty fuel pump part.
Last year, MSI had recalled 1,492 units of Ertiga, Swift, DZire and A-Star models produced in October 2013 to rectify a possible problem with steering column.
