Maruti to maintain double-digit growth: Kalsi

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is confident of maintaining double-digit sales growth in the year ending March 2017. The industry growth, however, is estimated to be around 6-7 per cent. In an interaction with The Hindu here on Wednesday, Mr.R.S. Kalsi, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), said Maruti’s sales grew 11.5 per cent in 2015-16, while the industry grew by 7.2 per cent. The market share of Maruti Suzuki rose to 46.8 per cent, a gain of 1.8 percentage points over the previous year, and up from 38 per cent in 2011-12. “This is the highest market share for us in the last seven years,” he said. In the passenger car space, its share stood at 52.7 per cent, a gain of 1.3 per cent over the previous year.

New product plan

Mr. Kalsi indicated that the new product plan of Maruti was on track, as part of its vision to hit 2 million in annual sales, from 1.28 million now. The company had lined up two new products - Ignis and Baleno RS – for introduction this year. The company plans to launch 15 new vehicles in the next few years, ahead of the introduction of new regulations and emission norms. The industry saw the introduction of 23 new models last year, of which three came from the Maruti stable - Scross, Baleno and Vitara Brezza.
