Maruti sales up by 6.4% in August

Country’s largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), reported 6.4 per cent rise in total sales at 1,17,864 units in August 2015, as against 1,10,776 units in the same month last year.

The company said its domestic sales increased by 8.6 per cent, during the month to 1,06,781 units, as against 98,304 units in August 2014.

Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, increased by 8.6 per cent to 37,665 units as compared to 34,686 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.

The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire declined by 11.3 per cent to 41,461 units in August this year as against 46,759 units last year.

Sales of its compact sedan Dzire Tour surged over two-fold during the month, under review at 3,172 units, as against 1,328 units in August 2014.

The sales of company’s mid-sized sedan Ciaz, which was launched in October 2014, stood at 4,156 units. The company had sold 50 units of SX4 sedan in August 2014. There was no sale of premium sedan Kizashi during the month.

The company said it sold 4,500 units of its newly launched premium crossover S-Cross during the last month.

Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, rose by 42.7 per cent at 7,836 units in August this year from 5,491 units in the corresponding month last year.

Sales of vans, Omni and Eeco rose by 25 per cent to 12,491 units in August this year, as compared to 9,990 units in the same period of previous year.

Exports during the month declined by 11.1 per cent to 11,083 units, as compared to 12,472 units in August last year, MSI said.

The company said export of around 500 units was delayed last month from Mundra port in Gujarat, due to floods in the state.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki were down 0.70 per cent at Rs 4,137.10 on BSE in morning trade.
