July 10, 2013 08:30 pm | Updated 08:30 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The guidelines for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) will be in place before the end of this month, Law and Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said on Wednesday.

The long-awaited guidelines are expected to pave the way for consolidation in the telecom sector which at present has about 13 mobile phone service providers.

Mr. Sibal was speaking at an Assocham event here.

Though the Telecom Ministry had announced broad guidelines for mergers and acquisitions in February last year, but detailed guidelines are yet to be unveiled.

Further, the minister said increasing the foreign direct investment (FDI) limit in the telecom sector from 74 per cent to 100 per cent could attract close to $10 billion worth of investments in the long-term.
