Xiaomi, which on Thursday unveiled the Y2 smartphone priced ₹9,999 onwards, said all its made in India phones would have locally assembled printed circuit boards or PCBs from the third quarter.
The Chinese smartphone maker had in April set up a new PCB assembly unit in Sriperumbudur in partnership with Foxconn.
“The aim is that 100% of the devices manufactured in India have locally assembled or manufactured PCBs by the third quarter (July-September) this year,” said Manu Jain, Xiaomi VP and India MD.
The move follows levying of 10% import duty by the government on some components, including populated PCBs.
