Petronet LNG’s LNG import terminal at Kochi in Kerala has got its first cargo carrying one lakh cubic metres of LNG from Ras Gas in Qatar and is likely to be off-loaded by next week.

However, the ship carrying gas in its liquid form could not dock at the port due to some dredging issues and presence of extra silt in the water level.

Due to heavy monsoon rains, a large amount of silt has flowed into the waters near the port. As soon as this issue is resolved the ship will dock and then the needful will be done as a ship needs a particular level of clear water depth to navigate and dock.

PLL is in touch with the Kochi Port Trust to resolve the issue, official sources said here.

The company has already indicated plans to import two cargoes or shiploads of LNG at the terminal this year. In the second year, it is expected to operate at 75 per cent capacity.
