‘IT firms should leverage technology'

January 05, 2011 11:06 pm | Updated 11:06 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Information technology companies will have to create newer working environment for next generation people, who are also called as millennial generation. These Y generation employees who are digital savvy will have different expectations and requirements from companies. As a result, these companies will have to create an environment that will bring collaboration with the existing culture, says R. Chandrasekaran, President and Managing Director, Cognizant Technology Solutions.

Globalisation

Addressing chief executive officers of IT companies in Chennai, on the trends and the year ahead for the industry, at a National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) annual New Year dinner, Mr. Chandrasekaran said globalisation in the industry would evolve in a big way. Companies would have to leverage technology such as virtualisation and cloud computing to address the needs of customers. The future of the IT sector would revolve around customers and this would create newer business and global delivery models.

Looking at the bygone years, he said there was a stable growth in the last decade for IT companies. Though the last two years were challenging, large scale mergers and acquisitions took place and most of the companies were looking at globalisation and virtualisation. Customers had started to talk about outcome-based revenue and the geographic spread was taking place. Though India has greater opportunities, challenges such as visa and work permit and service tax on outsourcing are considered as negative issues for the industry.
