Even as the strike by powerloom workers in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts, demanding enhanced wages, entered the sixth day on Saturday, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to intervene and concede their “just demands”.
In a statement, he said that the strike had caused a loss of over Rs.200 crore in terms of fabric production. The strike had affected various ancillary industries as well.
