October 20, 2014 10:25 pm | Updated May 23, 2016 04:48 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Surpassing analysts’ expectations, Idea Cellular of the Aditya Birla group, on Monday, reported 68 per cent growth in consolidated net profit at Rs.755.88 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2014, as compared to Rs.447.61 crore for the same period last year.

Total income increased to Rs.7,686.48 crore from Rs.6,385.91 crore, up 20 per cent.

On a standalone basis, the company reported 71 per cent growth in net profit at Rs.664.60 crore for the said quarter as compared to Rs.387.36 crore in the same period last year.

The company’s total income increased by 21 per cent to Rs.7,606.71 crore from Rs.6,296.45 crore.

Idea Cellular said it had reversed the last two years’ trend of sequential revenue decline during the seasonally weak ‘July to September’ quarter due to contraction in ‘Voice Minutes of Use’.

During the review quarter, the company carried 162.5 billion minutes on its network. In line with the emerging digital connectivity demand, the mobile data volume increased to 39.4 billion MB on its 2G and 3G platform, growing 21.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter.

While the Voice rate realisation was under pressure, a 22.5 per cent quarterly jump in mobile data revenue helped the company improve its ‘Average Realisation per Minute’ by 0.8 paisa. During the quarter, Idea added 4.60 million net new customers.
