HTC on expansion spree in India

With an aim to increase its market share in the burgeoning smartphone market in the country, Taiwanese handset maker HTC plans to launch up to 5 new models by the year end, besides ramping up retail presence as well as after sales service network.

“India is a very important market for us. We are putting a lot of efforts and investments in increasing our market share here. We will be introducing 3-5 new models this year, including the HTC One Mini. We’ll also expand our retail presence and service network,” HTC India's Country Head Faisal Siddiqui told The Hindu .

The company aims to reach a target of 7,000 points of presence in the next three quarters from 4,000 outlets now, he added.

According to industry estimates, HTC India presently has a market share of three per cent.

"We are expanding our service infrastructure. Two years back we had 50 service centers, now we have 250. We are looking at getting to about 400 level in the next six to nine months," Mr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, talking on the impact of the Microsoft-Nokia deal on the company’s relationship with the software giant and HTC's Windows Phone operating system-based device portfolio, HTC South Asia President Jack Yang said, “We did the first Windows Phone and our relationship with them (Microsoft) still remains strong.”
