The first round of tripatrite talks on Hindustan Motors Ltd failed to yield any concrete results.

The country's first automobile unit shut its gates at its mother plant at Uttarpara in the state's Hooghly district on May 24 , following the declaration of a work suspension that not only threw 2600 people out of job, but also ground to a halt the production of the iconic Ambassador cars.

“The net result of this meeting is a big zero,” said an anguished worker who attended Tuesday's meeting as a workers' representative. There was no assurance either on the clearance of the workers wage arrears or on the reopening of the unit, it was learnt.

The company has said that it will be a position to talk on clearance of dues only after June 30.

The state labour secretary said after the meeting that the government has sought a written response from the company on these issues.

The company's views on the meeting is awaited.
