Leading global players in the field of oil and gas exploration, including the U.S.-based Exxon Mobil, U.K.’s BP plc and France’s Total, have shown keen interest in India’s forthcoming biggest-ever auction of oil and gas blocks under the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP).

“India has so far received good response from all leading global players for the auction process, bids for which are invited till October this year.

“In fact, over 25 leading global energy majors, including Exxon Mobil and Conoco Philips of the U.S., U.K.’s BP plc and BG Group and France’s Total, participated in our NELP roadshows at Houston in the U.S. and Calgary in Canada,” Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Jitin Prasada said here on Friday.

Recent gas finds

Mr. Prasada said the recent gas finds in the Indian sedimentary basin by Reliance, ONGC and Gujarat State Petroleum Corp in the Krishna Godavari basin and oil discovery by Cairn in Rajasthan has changed the entire perception of foreign investors.
