Coimbatore-based Ekki Group, which manufactures pumps for domestic and agricultural applications, has entered into a 50:50 joint venture agreement with German pump maker Homa Pumpenfabrik Gmbh to make waste water pumps.

Kanishka Arumugam, director of Ekki, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the two firms would set up a plant in Coimbatore to manufacture pumps for the Indian and neighbouring markets.

In a statement, Klaus Hoffmann, chief executive of Homa, said the company was strengthening its international presence with the joint venture. It plans to invest ₹150 crore for global expansion, a substantial portion of which would be for the Indian venture. Homa’s current Indian sales arm would be merged with the JV firm, it is learnt.

Mr. Arumugam added the plant was likely to be commissioned in a year.
