Firstpost.com, a digital platform of the Network 18 group, has acquired fakingnews.com, a news satire portal operational since 2008, for an undisclosed amount. In a statement, Durga Raghunath of Firstpost said, “Our strong belief is that those who are digital news addicts are also those who have an enormous appetite for satire.” The website emphasised it would carefully retain distinction between news and satire. Fakingnews.com founder, Rahul Roushan, said that with the growth of the brand, especially through ‘social media’, the site needed partners. “News satire requires a reference point of real news.”
