Bad news for eBay India users. The e-commerce major will not be lowering fees for Indian sellers on its online marketplace despite having announced a global re-haul on the ‘percentage fee’ that it collects on every sale.
The company, on Wednesday, had announced a lowering of final value and listing fees for its sellers in a bid to make it more competitive against the likes of e-tailer Amazon.
“We tweak the fees for various product categories as time goes on, but this lowering of fees will be only for the U.S, Australia and possibly the U.K markets. We just changed a couple of categories last month for eBay India and may not do so again anytime soon,” an eBay India spokesperson said.
eBay has also been facing tough competition in the Indian market, with Amazon’s Junglee recently renewing its focus and Flipkart making a foray into eBay’s traditional marketplace model. “We will continue to stick to our ‘marketplace’ e-commerce model, which, we believe, is right for us. While several of our competitors have introduced methods such as cash-on-delivery to compete, we don’t feel it’s the right thing for us,” said Ramkumar Narayanan, General Manager, eBay Product Development Centre, while addressing reporters here at the launch of the eBay Census 2012.
