The month of November failed to bring cheer for auto makers in the country with major car manufacturers, including market leader Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra reporting a decline in domestic sales.
However, Honda Cars India and Ford reported good sales during the month, on the back of success of their recently-launched models — Amaze and EcoSport, respectively.
Maruti Suzuki India posted a decline of 5.9 per cent in domestic sales at 85,510 units in November, while sales of Hyundai Motor India declined 3.6 per cent to 33,501 units.
Hyundai Motor India Senior Vice-President (sales and marketing), Rakesh Srivastava, said, “After the festival season, market has been sluggish due to unfavourable macro-economic factors and low market sentiments resulting lower customer enquiries.”
General Motors India also reported 14.1 per cent decline in sales at 6,214 units. The company's Vice-President P Balendran said the market continues to remain sluggish due to unfavourable economic conditions and the company does not expect any improvement in the coming months.
In an exception to the general trend, Honda Cars India reported over two-and-half fold increase in domestic sales in November 2013 at 9,332 units as against 3,711 units in the year-ago period.
Ford's domestic sales also grew by 33 per cent to 7,909 units in last month.
Tata Motors' domestic sales (commercial and passenger vehicles) fell by over 40 per cent to 37,192 units. Commercial vehicles accounted for 26,816 units. Sales of Toyota Kirloskar Motor declined slightly to 10,208 units.
Two-wheeler
Meanwhile, two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp reported a 5.61 per cent rise in total sales at 5,30,530 units during the month under review, while Honda Motorcycle & Scooter posted 43 per cent jump in sales at 3,19,080 units Yamaha's domestic sales also increased by 6.5 per cent to 39,777 units during the month.
Chennai-based TVS Motor's total sales, however, dipped 9.88 per cent to 1,35,218 units.
