Decision on cotton export ban soon

Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Wednesday said that the Government would soon take a decision on the demand of the textile industry for a ban on export of raw cotton.

Noting that his Ministry was discussing the issue with various ministries, including the Commerce Ministry, he said a “a decision is expected soon”.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 15th convocation of the National Institute of Fashion Technology here.

Earlier, addressing the convocation, he urged NIFT to open specialised centres of the institute to cater to the specific needs of the various textiles clusters.

Pointing out that there had been a sustained demand for intervention by NIFT from several textiles clusters, he stressed the need to create a global identity through cutting-edge Indian designs.
