The transition from conventional automotive technology to electro-mobility (electric vehicles) in India offers large-scale business opportunity, according to top officials in Dassault Systemes, a leader in 3D design and engineering software.

“Most newcomers in the electro-mobility segment are adopting our solutions. Because our solutions are integrated they are finding it useful,” Guillaume Gerondeau, vice president, Transportation & Mobility Industry Asia, Dassault Systemes said in an interview.

‘3D effect’

“With many OEMs exploring opportunity for electrification, we are helping them to really simulate and model this in 3D and then see the behaviour in 3D and see the impact on other systems,” said Shree Harsha, business consulting director, Transportation & Mobility Industry, Dassault Systemes India.

He said besides helping OEMs or their suppliers to get into the electro-mobility space, the company is also training engineers who would be getting into this space. “We are in a big transformation mode in India right now. With the Government pushing of EVs, a lot of our existing OEM customers and their suppliers are getting into the EV space.

Similarly Indian auto component exporters are also getting themselves ready for the export opportunities and investing heavily. We see huge potential to help and partner, because globally we have had this kind of experience,” Mr. Harsha said. The company is also expecting ‘big’ business from the motorcycle and scooters segment which is heading for electrification. “A revolution is going to happen in the coming years in the automobile sector. There is a big opportunity for India to embrace that. India can take leadership in some key areas,” Mr. Gerondeau said.

“Winners of tomorrow will be decided now... People who are going to survive or be leaders in future mobility will be the ones that are going to be engaged in big digital transformation.

“Those staying static or trying to do the same thing or a bit better, will not have a bright future. In that regard, India is in a big position because you have everything here to succeed,” he said.
