Engine manufacturer Cooper Corporation Pvt. Ltd. is exploring opportunities to supply the product to off-road vehicles.
“We are in talks with at least five manufacturers,” General Manager-Marketing Gordon Dsouza said, adding the company saw good scope for its engines in a range of vehicles and earth moving equipment. The validation process was also in progress. The scope for supplying to commercial vehicles was limited since most of them had their own engine manufacturing facilities, he said in response to a query from presspersons here on Wednesday.
Interacting with the media at the launch of the 180 kVA ‘Cooper Ecopack’ generator fitted with six-cylinder Cooper diesel engine, he said the company had doubled the capacity at the engine plant, in Satara, three months ago. The project, on which Rs.130 crore was invested, took the capacity from 24,000 units to 48,000 units annually.
The company was in discussion with global engine manufacturers for technical collaborations for the large engine. The plan was to invest Rs.200 crore in the next five years, he added.
Cooper gensets were also being made at the same place and the production capacity was 24,000 units.
