The Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI), on Wednesday, cleared five oil and gas blocks, including the KG-D6 and NEC-25 which had faced objections from the Defence Ministry. However, three blocks will continue to be in the category of ‘no go’ areas.

The Defence Ministry had declared a total of eight blocks, including Reliance Industries Ltd.’s (RIL) KG basin KG-D6 block and gas discovery area of NEC-25 in the North East Coast (NEC) region, as ‘no go’ zones for various reasons, including overlapping with a proposed naval base or being close to missile launching and Air Force exercise areas. It had put stringent conditions for another 31 exploration areas.
