Brightstar and Bharti are in the final stages of signing the contract.

Brightstar Corp, which is one of the largest distributors of mobile devices in the world, is all set to acquire majority stake in Beetel, which is a part of India’s Bharti Group.

Beetel is also into distribution and sales of telecommunications and technology products. For Bharti, which now operates the highly successful cellular and fixed line services, this was its first foray into the telecom sector at a time when the public sector, especially ITI ruled the roost in telecom hardware.

“Brightstar and Bharti are in the final stages of signing the contract. With this partnership Brightstar will be able to leverage Beetel’s well-established distribution platform throughout India and Africa,” according to sources.

Founded in 1985, Beetel Teletech is a leader in manufacturing of landline telephones for Airtel, which is also a Bharti group company, and also PSU firms BSNL and MTNL. These devices are available for sale in the open market as well and are also exported. Beetel had made its first exports to the US in the early nineties, thus establishing its reputation as a manufacturer of quality land line phone instruments.

Besides, the company is also into providing Voice & Data solutions and Network solutions (last mile connectivity) to enterprises.

Post the deal, Beetel will retain its name and continue operating from its headquartered in Gurgaon, sources said.
