Bharti Airtel registered two-fold increase in consolidated net income to Rs.1,436.5 crore for the third quarter ended December, 2014.

During the quarter, the company posted a net profit of Rs.610.20 crore.

Consolidated revenues for the third quarter stood at Rs.23,217.10 crore, up 5.8 per cent from Rs.21,938.50 crore in the year-ago period.

This is the highest net profit for the telecom giant since April-June quarter 2010 and fifth straight quarter of profit after 15 quarters of losses.

Consolidated mobile data revenues grew 61.9 per cent to Rs.2,872 crore. Mobile data revenues now contribute more than 85 per cent of the incremental revenues of the company.

Growth drivers

The growth in India was driven by 13 per cent rise in revenues from mobile, 13.2 per cent in tele-media and 15.8 per cent in digital TV. Mobile voice realisation in the country improved to 37.67 paise per minute, up by 0.45 paise year-on-year.

Mobile data revenue at Rs.2,114 crore registered a growth of 74.3 per cent year-on-year in India, uplifted by increase in usage per customer by 38.3 per cent. In addition, data customer base grew by 32.4 per cent, Bharti Airtel said.

Mobile Data revenues contribute to 16.2 per cent of mobile India revenues compared to 10.6 per cent in the same quarter last year.

Africa revenues grew by 3.9 per cent year-on-year in local currency terms, but the reported revenues were down by 5.3 per cent due to appreciation of the dollar.

Manoj Kohli resigns

Bharti Enterprises Managing Director Manoj Kohli has resigned from the board of Bharti Airtel, marking his formal exit from the telecom business of the group.

In a filing to the BSE, Bharti Airtel said Mr. Kohli had resigned as non-executive director.

Airtel said Shishir Priyadarshi had been appointed as an independent director.
