KOLKATA: The ₹ 200-crore greenfield project of Berger Paints India Ltd. at Sandila Industrial Area in Uttar Pradesh is expected to go on stream by March 2020.

Indicating this in a regulatory filing with the stock exchanges, the company said that its board of directors had approved installation of an integrated plant with water and solvent-based products.

Berger Managing Director Abhijit Roy said that the product-mix of the plant would be predominantly decoratives. However, it would also have some industrial paints, he added.

This is the second greenfield project of Berger since its plant in Assam two years ago.

Mr. Roy said that the outlook for the paint industry was good. The rising demand in the residential segment due to affordable housing units that were coming up in many states and the government’s thrust on the infrastructure projects had all combined to provide a good outlook, he added.

BPIL is present in the domestic and industrial paint, powder and protective paint category.

It has 12 units with a monthly capacity of 60,000 tonnes.
