Avaamo targets mobile workforce in India

March 18, 2015 11:40 pm | Updated 11:40 pm IST - BENGALURU:

The U.S.-based Avaamo, which is focussed on mobile messaging app for enterprises, sees India as a big market due to huge mobile workforce.

Founded by two Indian Americans Ram Menon and Sriram Chakravarthy in 2014, it is eyeing more than half of its customers in India.

“In India, messaging has become the primary way of communication and voice calls are secondary. The growth of Whatsapp in India is an example for this. With our app, we want to use the messaging platform for business communication,” said Ram Menon, Founder and CEO of Avaamo.

Avaamo application is available both in Apple store and Android as free and paid version.

According to the company, it has 19 paid customers on board, of which 10 are Indian firms, including a leading insurance company. The company’s technology team is also based in Bengaluru with more than 20 member mobile communication experts.

“We launched the app in store in December. Without any promotion, we are getting significant responses. Around 50 per cent of our customers are in India, which itself shows the trend how business can use messaging app for business,” added Mr. Menon.

Currently, over 3,000 business entities in India are using the application, since the beta launch. The company believes around 50 per cent of them will prefer the premium version.

Its target industries include BFSI, travel, aviation, construction, medical services and retail.

In 2014, Avaamo had raised around $6.3 million in seed funding, which is the largest seed funding round in the Silicon Valley.

Avaamo is backed by five investors including China’s VC firm WI Harper, and Silicon Valley-based Rembrandt Ventures Partners, Streamlined Ventures, Eleven Two Capital and Ovo Fund.
