ASCI finds Airtel 4G ad misleading; teleco to seek review

October 02, 2015 02:49 am | Updated 02:49 am IST - NEW DELHI:

With ASCI asking Airtel to withdraw an advertisement claiming that its 4G network is the fastest network ever as it was misleading, the country’s largest operator on Thursday said it would seek review of the decision and provide technical data to support its advertisement.

Based on consumer complaints, the industry watchdog had asked Airtel to comply with the order by October 7. As per the ‘Airtel Challenge’ campaign, Airtel 4G is the fastest network. The campaign proposes that if a consumer can find a faster data network, their mobile bills will be paid by Airtel for life.

“We are engaging with ASCI to provide them with the technical data in support of our advertising claims and are following the prescribed process to schedule a review of the said issue. We are confident of getting a favourable response from them,” an Airtel spokesperson said.

“As the only commercial providers of this world class technology in India, our advertising campaign revolves around the 4G promise of fastest internet speeds and features a set of claims that are based on rigorous test conditions,” it reasoned.
