The Apparel Export Promotion Council has proposed to hold a nation wide strike on November 19 to protest against the ‘continuously' rising prices of cotton yarn.
In a press release, the council said all apparel units across the country would remain closed on November 19 and the council members would meet State government officials and district authorities seeking government intervention to bring down the yarn prices.
Noting that the yarn prices have shot up by 70 to 82 per cent in the last 16 months, the council said in the last two months alone, they have gone up from Rs.185 a kg to an all time high of over Rs.240 a kg.
Urging the Centre to take immediate corrective steps, the council called for a ban on exports of yarn till the prices stabilised.
