Retail inflation for farm and rural workers eased to 12.78 per cent and 12.44 per cent in September, respectively from 13.21 per cent and 12.89 per cent in August this year.
“Point-to-point rate of inflation based on the Consumer Price Index-Agriculture Labourers (CPI-AL) and Consumer Price Index-Rural Labourers (CPI-RL) decreased from 13.21 per cent and 12.89 per cent in August, 2013 to 12.78 per cent and 12.44 per cent in September, 2013,” a statement said.
According to the statement inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL are 13.27 per cent and 13.08 per cent, respectively during September this year.
The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for September, 2013 increased by 5 points and 6 points respectively to stand at 759 points each.
The rise or fall in index varied from state to state. In case of farm workers, it recorded an increase which varied between 1 to 19 points in 19 States and a decrease of 6 points in 1 State. Haryana with 836 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 608 points stood at the bottom.
In case of rural workers, it recorded an increase between 2 points and 19 points in 18 states, a decrease of 7 points in one state and remained stationary in one State. Haryana with 830 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh State with the index level of 640 points stood at the bottom.
Haryana registered the maximum increase of 19 points each for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers mainly due to increase in the prices of wheat atta, bajara atta, vanaspati, meat goat, milk, ghee, onion, vegetables & fruits, firewood and shirting cloth cotton mill.
On the other hand, Karnataka registered a decline of six points for Agricultural Labourers and 7 points for Rural Labourers mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, jowar, mustard oil, poultry, chillies green, vegetables & fruits and earthen ware.
