Prime Minister Narendra Modi had his second monthly meeting on the setting of targets and monitoring of progress in the implementation of key projects with the Secretaries of infrastructure ministries including roads – both rural and national highways -- power, telecom and railways on Saturday.
The officials apprised the PM on targets and delivery deadlines for these projects for the current financial year along with updates on the achievements in the previous year, said sources.
When contacted, the official spokesperson for at least one of these ministries confirmed that the meeting was held but refused to divulge details of the proceedings.
Mr. Modi has introduced a system of monthly setting of targets and weekly monitoring of progress on them for infrastructure projects. Infrastructure sector is a focus area for the Modi government and a key to its agenda for the economy’s revival.
The first of these monthly meetings between the PM and the Secretaries of infrastructure ministries was held on June 17th. Ministers are not called for these meetings.
At the first meeting, monthly targets were set for the ministries and they were asked to prepare and submit plans for the current year for schemes and projects they run. The officials were asked to submit deadlines by which the ministries would deliver on the targets set. Officials at the Cabinet Secretariat and the Prime Ministers Office will monitor the progress.
