Pakistan’s Minister of State for Commerce and Textiles Khurram Dastgir Khan on Wednesday said increased market access, easing of non-tariff barriers and free flow of investment and goods between the countries would help normalise trade.

In an interview The Hindu, Mr. Dastgir Khan described the most-favoured nation (MFN) status as a red herring that distracted attention from the real issue, which, he said, was non-discriminatory access. The Minister also said both countries should have a level-playing field and described the visa regime as the biggest non-tariff barrier. The Minister, visiting New Delhi on January 16 and 17 to attend the South Asian Business Leaders Conclave, will meet Commerce Minister Anand Sharma.
