The government has exempted exporters from submitting landing certificate of goods to avail duty benefits given under the reward scheme called Merchandise Exports India Scheme (MEIS). This step has been taken as part of ease of doing business and reduction of transaction cost of the exporters, the commerce ministry said in a statement. Landing Certificate is the proof of landing of the consignment in the designated market. The government had received many representations pointing out difficulties in obtaining landing certificate from Shipping Lines and Agents.
