NIRANTHARA — B.V. Kakkilaya Felicitation Volume: Edited by K.S. Parthasarathy, M.S. Krishnan Memorial Trust, 15, Embassy Centre, Crescent Road, Bangalore-560001. Rs. 300.
THE BIOGRAPHY of B.V. Kakkilaya, a veteran communist leader, virtually runs parallel to the history and growth of the party in Karnataka. This volume, which has articles both in Kannada and English, presents a detailed account of his achievements in the political arena and his services to society in general.
Although born in a family of landlords, he spurned luxurious living, joined the freedom struggle, spent several years in prison for having participated in the movement, and later on went underground and worked for the communist party. Also he took an active part in the movements for Goa liberation and Karnataka unification.
Kakkilaya’s valuable services as a freedom-fighter, parliamentarian, labour leader and social activist are recalled by various writers. Some of the articles reveal the revolutionary life of this undaunted leader right from his student days.
The articles include selected articles and speeches of the leader. Several scholars, historians, educationists and social workers have contributed articles on various subjects reflecting their experiences and voicing concern about social, political and economic problems prevailing now.
