“Winners don't do different things. They do things differently,” the trademark line of Shiv Khera, well-known motivational speaker and author, applies to himself, considering his bestselling book “You Can Win” has set a benchmark in our publishing industry by selling reportedly over two million copies in 16 languages. Recently, Khera released a special edition of “You Can Win” with a VCD at New Delhi's India Habitat Centre.

The launch event began with Khera alongside Rajiv Beri, managing director, Macmillan India — the publishers of the book, unwrapping the special edition. Khera thereafter took the stage to thank his readers and share with those present his journey from an unknown author to an internationally renowned one. The journey, he said, was fraught with failures and disappointments and he learnt a lesson every time, thus seamlessly conveying the underlying message of the book.

Khera said, “You do good in life, you'll be criticised, you do bad in life, you'll still be criticised, so keep doing the good work in life and to hell with the criticism,” while explaining the importance of taking criticism in good spirit and not being bogged down by it. Khera stressed on the importance of having “self-belief and vision” in one's life to eliminate expressions like “should have”, “could have” and “would have” from “the rear view mirror of life at the age of 85.”

Besides winning readers in India, Delhi-based Khera also succeeded in taking the message of the book to countries like the U.S. and Singapore “helping people on the path of personal growth and fulfilment with 30 yrs of research, understanding, and experience.”

Khera also took the opportunity to announce his next book at the event. It deals with the ways of good parenting. “Parenting is not a popularity contest and sometimes you have to be unkind to be kind (towards the children),” he said. On finding readers for one's book, he was heard saying, “Out of 100 students, only 10 listen and follow the teachings of a teacher. The same is the case withbook readers. If only a single reader follows the book and can bring a certain amount of success in his life, my purpose is served.”

Khera summed up the evening function heaping the credit for the success of the book not only on Macmillan (“showing immense faith in the book”) but also thanked his wife, daughter and son-in-law for always being there for him.
