Steve McCurry

Steve McCurry has been, for over 30 years, one of the most iconic figures in contemporary photography. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, McCurry studied cinematography at Pennsylvania State University. He traveled with his camera to India and eventually Pakistan where he met Afghan refugees who smuggled him into Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion. His images taken there became some of the first to exhibit the brutality of the invasion. McCurry has since gone on to create unforgettable images over six continents that span conflicts, ancient traditions and cultures while retaining the human element that made his celebrated image of the Afghan Girl so powerful. He has been recognized with some of the most prestigious awards including but not limited to the Robert Capa Gold Medal, National Press Photographers Award, and an unprecedented four first prize awards from the World Press Photo contest.

Steve McCurry will take us on a photo-journey – Picturing the Indian Sub-continent – on February 6, 2013, in Delhi. Dinesh Khanna will introduce him.
