The foundation is ecumenical as regards subject and genre. The books could be on politics, economics, or culture, and may take the form of a memoir, a work of reportage, or a thickly footnoted academic study, a source said. The deadline for applying is June 30. Fellows will get Rs. 90,000 a month for a year.

Details are at > www.newindiafoundation.org. Ramachandra Guha and Nandan Nilekani are the foundation’s trustees.
