Bhavneet Kaur

Delhiite Bhavneet Kaur's debut work “MYRA — Collection of Hues”, talks about experiencing life to the fullest, viewing each day as different and loving every moment of it. A childlike enthusiasm radiates from her voice as she gushes about her poems, published recently by UBS Publishers. Here, Kaur, an English teacher with Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh, shares her views on love, companionship, life and more. Excerpts from the interview:

Myra” revolves around love, family, relationships, beauty, etc. What inspired you to write about these subjects? things?

Being a school teacher, I have always wanted that children should think creatively. Their life is full of colours and they are highly imaginative. I will give you an example. I was observing my little cousin one day, he was hungry and crying for food but nobody was paying attention to him. He sat gloomily near the window looking at the moon. When I asked him what he thought of the moon, he said the moon is just like me, sad and hungry. His thoughts inspired me to write about the moon, dreams, butterflies, etc. I feel children should be allowed to see life through their eyes.

I also feel that love is an expression which is deteriorating in today's world. We all realise in the journey of life that companionship becomes important. When my parents died, I realised that losing is a part of life, letting go is another thing, it nurtures the orchid called life. My father inspired me to write the poems. I want to make people ponder about their lives through my work.

Why did you choose the word “Myra” as your title?

Myra has different meanings. In English, it means poetic invention. In Greek, it means a quiet song and in Latin, it means wonderful one. I wanted to write about the wonderful journey called life, by combining quietness with creative innovations of life. Myra also means a mix of three colours— pink (for innocence), red (for passion) and white (for peace). I live life in all its spectacular colours and splendour.

What are you currently working on?

I am writing a novel based on my best friends. They truly live life in the real sense. I admit being an introvert but life for my friends is always happening.
