Day dreamer Dev Traces the Amazon by Ken Spillman

Dev loves to dream! Sitting in the class or watching the clouds from the roof of Kwality Carpets, his dreams see him scaling the Everest in one and cruising through the Amazon in the other. His bizarre adventures will definitely take you on a trip worth cherishing.

Mighty Amazon

While the street comes alive with squeals and screams of the boys playing cricket, Dev is doing what he knows best — dreaming. Any conversation can spark that off and this one was sparked off by his classmate OP’s talk on the mighty river.

A mind-boggling journey, it’s a task for Dev to get back in one piece as anacondas, tarantulas, alligators and piranhas scurry past him.

It’s here that he meets Boto — a pink river dolphin who can transform into a handsome young man at night. But with the prevailing perils it will be a task before he gets home aided by Boto’s timely appearance and escaping from the green Anaconda.

Mount Everest

The lesson in class is getting to him and he wants something to cool him down. Dev can feel the snow and before he knows, he is at the base camp of the summit. Here too he has a guide, a Sherpa ghost woman, who helps him trek through the valley, dodge a blizzard, and survive the life threatening avalanche. He manages for most part of the trip but the lack of oxygen may get to him, unless he hurries back to the camp.

The author’s vivid imagination stems from Mark Twain and the inspiration he draws from his hero Ruskin Bond. His books take a peek into the little Dev inside each one of us and teaches us to triumph even if it means having to brave all odds! Michelle Farooqi’s illustrations make the book easy to read and follow.
